Getting started

Account

Create an account, confirm your email, sign in with Google, reset a forgotten password and sign out.

An account keeps your workspace: saved layouts, drawings and favourite symbols. Confirming your email address unlocks the rest — see Access levels for exactly what each step adds.

Create an account

Go to /register and choose one of two ways in.

  • Email and password. Enter your email address and a password of 8 to 72 characters (a letter with an accent, or an emoji, counts as more than one), then press Create account. You are signed in straight away and taken to the chart.
  • Continue with Google. Your Google account's address is used, and it counts as confirmed from the first sign-in — there is no email to click.

Confirm your email

When you register with a password, TapeHawk sends a confirmation email. Open the link in it; the page says Your email is verified. and offers a link back to the chart.

  • The link works once, for 24 hours.
  • Until you confirm, a banner at the top of every page of the site asks you to verify your email. Its Resend email button sends a new link and then stays disabled. Asking for new links many times in a row makes it ask you to wait a few minutes.
  • If you open the link in a browser where you are not signed in, the address is still confirmed; sign in on that browser to use it.

Go to /login and enter your email and password, or use Continue with Google.

Signing in with Google on an address that already has a confirmed account signs you into that same account. If the address was registered with a password but never confirmed, signing in with Google takes the account over: its layouts and drawings stay, the old password stops working, and every other browser signed in to it is signed out within about 15 minutes. Set a password again with Forgot password if you want one.

Forgot your password

  1. On the sign-in page, follow Forgot password, or go to /forgot-password.
  2. Enter your email address and press Send reset link. The page always answers If that email exists, a reset link is on its way. — it never says whether an address is registered.
  3. Open the link in the email within one hour, choose a new password and press Reset password.

Setting a new password signs every browser out of the account within about 15 minutes, and the page takes you to sign in with the new one.

Sign out

Click the round button with your initial at the right end of the toolbar and choose Log out. On a phone, open the menu (☰) and choose Log out there.

Your chart when you sign in

  • What you set up before signing in — indicators, timeframe, panel settings — comes with you, as long as you sign in in the same browser tab within half an hour. The first time you sign in, that chart is saved as a layout named Default.
  • If your account already has a saved layout that differs from it, the chart asks You have a saved layout. Which one do you want? — Keep current settings saves what you set up over the layout, Use saved layout opens the saved one.
  • After that, the chart opens the layout you opened last, and every change you make is saved to it as you go. Panels and layouts covers keeping several.
